FF2 The Sadistic Ending

I was so close to saving Mayu.

With that last shot, the gruesome Kusabi screamed a death cry. He fell on his knees before fading away. A faint smile appeared on my lips as I lowered the Camera Obscura. "I'm almost there, onee-chan," I thought.
I looked at the long passage of Shinto gates that lured deeper and deeper into the earth. Beyond that passage, Mayu was waiting for me. Without a moment's doubt, I ran deep down the passage with only one thing on my mind that drove me. Not even the shakes from the upcoming Hellish Abyss threw me off.
Soon, we'll be able to leave this cursed village... together...
When I reached the end of the passage, the first and only thing that caught my eyes was Mayu. She stood there, all alone, so innocent.
"Mio..." Mayu said in almost a haunting and soothing voice. (Wait, did she say "Yae" as well?) Suddenly, a whole army of Veiled Priests were to my sides. However, my eyes stayed only on Mayu.
"We were born together..." she began. I was wondering why she wasn't running towards me so we could escape this hell. That's when she said, "... but we have to live and die seperately." I was confused as to what she was getting at. "I knew this.." Mayu said. She looked away from me. "I knew."
I slowly walked toward her, saying, "We'll be together. We will." Mayu closed her eyes, as though in disagreement.
"We can't be together forever."
I stopped dead in my tracks. Suddenly, the priests began to bang their staves on the ground in a harmonial rhythm.
I don't really understand why, but I couldn't see anything for the next few minutes. All I could do was listen and feel.
Suddenly, as she took my hand and led me forward, Mayu continued, "But, with this, we can become one." She positioned me to lean over some sort of giant rock. Then, she took my hands and placed them on something smooth and warm.
"So it's alright."
In that mere moment, I got to see once again, but only to glimpse an unpleasant image. I was hovering over Mayu, my hands around her neck. I tried to resist, to back away from this terrible situation, but Mayu simply lowered me by her head to whisper her last words to me.
"Kill me."
It was as though my soul turned off for one moment as another took over. Before my mind went blank, my thumbs twitched.

I didn't know how long it took for my conscious to come back. At first, it was my control over my own body. I slowly retreated my hands. Next was my sight. At first, everything was blurry and uncontrasted. Then, I saw something red. As I regained control of my vision, I finally understood, but at the same time, I didn't.
There was a crimson butterfly sitting on my sister's neck.
Crimson butterfly..
I sat there, looking at the butterfly in awe. The palm of my ahnds were all sweaty. Mayu... She just laid there.
Two Mourners approached and picked Mayu up with their clammy hands. I didn't stop them. I knew what they were doing.
Oh no...
They threw Mayu's souless body int the Hellish Abyss.
I killed my sister!
I shook my head in disbelief. I gripped my hair, trying to wake up from this terrible nightmare.
Mayu can't die!!
I ran to the edge of the Hellish Abyss to look in. "If it really is a dream, I shouldn't go blind," I thought.
Before I could peer in, a crimson butterfly came flying out. It paused in front of my face for a second.
"Thank you," the butterfly said before flying away. That voice...
"MAYUUUUUUUU!!!"
I ran through the whole village and up Misono Hill, following a sky of crimson butterflies, following Mayu. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I ran up the muddy hill. "I'm sorry!" I cried. "I'm sorry!!" I slipped, but I landed my hands on the deity statue next to me and crawled back up on my feet, continuing to chase Mayu.
One butterfly, Mayu, came back. I tried to reach for her, but she just gently pecked the tip of my finger before flying away into the stars with the other butterflies. She came back just to say goodbye.
Now, she was gone. Forever.
I covered my face with both my hands as the tears began to pour out. I fell on my knees. I was all alone... I killed my sister...
I noticed that the sun began to come up. I didn't want it to come up. It hurt my eyes. I don't want to see that Mayu is gone.
"I want it to stay dark," I murmured.
For some reason, as if my wish had come true, it was still night time. However, I didn't think about how odd it was. I didn't even think about how I've been crying blood instead of tears. Instead, I thought about my feelings. Anger. Grief. Lonely. Betrayed.
Suddenly, I found myself giggling.

My name is Mio Amakura. I died when I hit my head on a diety statue. The spirit of my twin saw, but she didn't stay to comfort me. But it's alright.
She'll come back for me. I know she will.
